This image is inspired by Turtle Island located off the coast of Yilan. The painting was constructed using a source image of Turtle Island that I took during a trip. I painted the landscape on the canvas first and washed it away with large quantities of liquefied paint using repetitive large gestures. The process of destroying the source image as well as observing the traces of image that are left behind allowed me to construct a new relationship between a figuration and abstraction. The destruction process of the image of Turtle Island evokes the destruction to the island during the aftermath of the 403 earthquake.
